So you want a career in accountancy and business advisory? Great career choice. Next, you’ll ask do I go big firm for wide experience or small firm for hands-on help while you’re training? How about JPA Brenson Lawlor for the perfect combination of the two?
We are an ambitious Top 20 firm that is expanding. We are big enough, with many sectoral specialities but even at fifty plus employees we are small enough to make sure you are not a cog on any wheel. But instead of yacking on about how wonderful we think we are we asked a random selection of four of your newer staff members to tell us what it’s like to work (and play!) at JPA Brenson Lawlor.
Shane is a newly joined ACA trainee;
“I wanted an all-round training contract. So far I have completed VAT returns, accounts preparation and audits. No two jobs have been the same. I’ve had direct access to managers and any query I’ve had during a job has been quickly responded to. There are no barriers in place to prevent my attendance at lectures. At the annual training, an entire day was set aside for dealing with any topics that the new starters may have encountered. There is an active social club which includes a (trophy winning!) tag rugby team and regular nights out.”
Derek is an ACCA trainee;
“During my three years at JPA Brenson Lawlor, I have been given exposure to a lot of different sectors and this has given me great experience areas that I will carry with me in my career. Partners are very supportive, helping the trainees with exams and they understand that working full time and studying can be difficult and they give generous study leave which I really appreciate. This has helped me pass all my exams so far. I would definitely recommend JPA Brenson Lawlor as a place to work and also to complete your ACCA exams.”
Mairéad Sheahan - newly qualified ACA
“There is continuous training both in house and externally. Everyone is very supportive and there to lend advice anytime I need it. There is an extremely friendly and open atmosphere in the office right from management to trainee level. There are plenty of social nights and events organised throughout the year which is a great way for new trainees to settle in and get to know everyone!”
Deirdre O’Toole- Newly qualified tax senior
“The most encouraging thing for me starting in JPA Brenson Lawlor was how friendly all the staff are, from the trainees right through to the partners. The pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in the office makes settling in far easier. The numerous social events organised are also great for settling in and making new friends! Starting a three and a half year training programme can seem quite daunting; however the constant training provided in the office and by external sources ensures you are fully equipped to do the job at hand.”
